Hi there!

This week VIPPA-BCN has approached the exhibition of Game of Thrones that, since October 28, 2017, takes place at the Museu Marítim de Barcelona. We thought it would end in January 2018 but on the same day that we wrote this post we get communication that probably will be extended until March.

For those of you who do not know this world, VIPPA-BCN offers you a brief summary of the serial:

Game of Thrones is an American TV series of medieval fantasy, drama and adventure created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for the HBO channel, based on the series of novels “Song of Ice and Fire” by the writer George R.R.Martin whose first book has the name of the series.

In the series, three basic narrative chronicles are distinguished:

  • Violent dynastic battles for the iron control of the West.
  • Attempts to recover the same throne by the heirs of the old ruling dynasties.
  • The increasing threat of winter, the legendary creatures and the ferocious peoples that live beyond the wall of ice that separates the north of the south.

It is a story that cruelly describes its characters, with scenes full of violence (slavery, torture, incest, frustrated marriages, among others), despite this, it is known as one of the most expensive television series. Part of their magical world is set in Andalusia and you cannot get too fond of the characters because they’re soon gone.

It all begins with Eddard Stark, as Lord of Winterfell, appointed by Robert I Baratheon, King of the Seven Kingdoms, who must condemn and execute a deserter from the Night’s Guard (he is a deserter by running out when he sees how the walkers and the savages kill his two companions). We also witnessed the discovery of five wolf puppies next to their dead mother that are distributed, one for each of their legitimate sons of Eddard (and another totally white, who remains with his bastard son Jon Snow). We are aware that Cersei Lannister Baratheon, the king’s wife, commits incest with her twin brother Jaime Lannister and at that point he pushes adventurer Bran, son of 10-year-old Eddard, from a cupboard, hoping to hide their secret, leaving him in a coma (he had to have fulfilled the promise he made to his mother to stop climbing). The delicate Sansa, the 11-year-old daughter of Eddard, is engaged to the 12-year-old son of the king. You can see that the first chapter has no waste and can hook you into the last season.

The exhibition was created by the North American production company GES along with HBO and the European promoters Sold Out and Encore. Two years have needed to be able to open its doors after collecting a representative sample of the different parts of the universe created by G.R.R. Martin.

In the exhibition you can find from the dresses of the purple wedding of King Joffrey Baratheon, to the dueling dress of Cersei Daenerys of the seventh season, the garments of the ghostly giant and the armor of The Dog, Melisandre’s necklace that allows him to stay young, the vidriagon dagger that almost ended the life of Bran Stark and that later ended up in the hands of Arya or the golden hand of Jaime Lannister. You can also take pictures as an extra of many scenes of the series and on the way out in the store, buy shirts, mugs, notebooks or any other object inspired by the fantastic series.

Now you already know that they have given us two more months to be able to attend the exhibition. Also, at the entrance, they offer you a free two-month subscription to HBO Spain. Do not miss it!

See you soon and remember…

Winter is coming…
